Benjamin J. Reddish, Jr….A reflection of his life experiences , encompassing his service as a dedicated educator, civic leader, and a community servant for over fifty years of committed and diversified services promoting programs and providing leadership to improve lives of youth and volunteering to meet needs of our Stockton and surrounding communities.

Ben, a native of South Carolina was assured of achieving success coming from a family and a community that placed a very high priority on education. His family modeled the foundation for service to youth and the community. During his career as a teacher and counselor he has consistently focused his skills on being a role model for youth by continuing to provide students with life skills through counseling to reach their full potential to become productive citizens.

Ben graduated from High School at 15 and college at 19. He taught for two years and was drafted in the U.S. Army. He was trained to be a chemical laboratory instructor and assigned to Sharpe Army Depot as a teacher. Upon an honorable discharge from the military he was immediately employed by Stockton Unified School District as a Science and Math teacher. During this tenure, a decision was made to pursue a Masters in Counseling, Psychology, Administration…feeling the need to have more influence on the preparation and guidance of students to enter college. This visionary effort led to State wide recognition. Meeting the needs of youth and community continues to be Ben’s primary focus as he maintains his deep commitment to making a difference through dedicated participation.

Ben, currently serves on many boards, a few as follows:  The Kiwanis Club of Stockton; The Stockton Symphony Association; The San Joaquin County Historical Society; Phi Delta Kappa International; Stockton Sister Cities Organization; Association of Filipino American Educators; The Esquire Club, Inc.; Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. ; People to People International and Black Employees Association, etc.

Bens’ honors and recognitions are too numerous to mention. In sharing a few; Who’s Who Among Outstanding Counselors in California and nationally; State of California Clarion Model Award for Distinguished Counseling Service; The HB McDaniel Award, Stanford University; Commendations and resolutions from State, global and Local governments.

Ben’s legacy to our communities are evident as he is recognized and celebrated wherever he participates. He is an inspiration to our youth leaders and shares his leadership expertise to make our communities a better place. Further, Ben continues providing service and being an inspiring role model, reflecting and supporting excellence through leadership for Stockton and surrounding communities.
